Surface Treatments (Rubber Chipseal, Bonded Wearing Course)

Surface treatments are a blanket preventive maintenance category that includes various repair types including but not limited to rubber chip sealing, micro surface overlay, and ultra-thin bonded wearing course. Taxpayer dollars are wisely spent on surface treatments on roads in fair, or better condition (PCI from 65 to 85). Surface treatments should not be used on roads with significant cracking, rutting, and obvious base issues. The DPW's revamped pavement management program will aim to include select surface treatments at various stages of a pavement's lifecycle. Following is a brief explanation of each surface treatment the DPW aims to employ on Oxford's streets:
