The Town Tree Warden is responsible for all planting, maintenance, and care for all trees within the right of way on Town roads.
To request the removal of a tree that is on town property, send a written request to the Tree Warden. Include the location, type and size of the tree, and an explanation of why you wish to remove it. Please be aware that there are specific rules and regulations concerning the removal of trees on a designated Scenic Road. If the tree is determined to be on a scenic road, you must contact both the Tree Warden and the Oxford Planning Board. If you are not sure whether or not the tree is on the Town's property, play it safe and ask the Tree Warden to make a determination.
Per Massachusetts General Law Chapter 87, public hearings are required prior to making a determination to remove a tree:
The Tree Warden must hold a public hearing before granting permission to remove any tree.
If the tree is located on a designated scenic road, then a hearing must be held before the Planning Board.
