Project Name: Fremont St and Sigourney St Roadway and Pedestrian Improvements

  • Project Description: Through a $180,000 MassDOT Complete Streets grant award and local roadway rehabilitation funding, constructed an accessible sidewalk along Fremont Street and Sigourney Street. The project also entails improving the stormwater infrastructure improvements on Fremont Street and reconstructing the roadway.
  • Project Goals: Provide safe, accessible pedestrian facilities and critical connectivity from downtown area neighborhoods to Main Street and institutional facilities. Restore roadway pavement and enhance stormwater management on Fremont Street.

  • Other Information: The project features implementation of stormwater best management practices, or BMP's, including a subsurface infiltration trench at the southern end of Fremont Street as well as a bioretention basin with enhanced subsurface storage at the entrance to the Town Hall parking lot on Sigourney Street. These improvements were constructed to improve water quality including phosphorus and nitrogen load reductions of approximately 1.45 pounds per year and 10.46 pounds per year, respectively. The BMP's are regularly maintained by the Department of Public Works with the last service being performed on August 29th, 2025.
