The Town of Oxford is an active participant in keeping our streams, rivers, and ponds clean, healthy, and enjoyable. Through many programs aimed towards both municipal work and private development, we are taking steps to control what gets into the drainage system and ultimately the waterbodies. Factors such as pollutants from vehicles, construction runoff, and household waste can all be managed with proper planning.
The many miles of the French River, its numerous tributary streams, and ponds such as Carbuncle Pond and McKinstry Pond are an important part of the aquatic environment and habitat to hundreds of species of animals and plants, not to mention their fishing, canoeing, swimming, nature study and other opportunities for residents.
The Department of Public Works, developers, and residents all contribute to the success of protecting these waters now and into the future.
