When is a Zoning Determination Needed?

A letter of Zoning Determination is needed when opening or relocating a business in Town, including home occupations. 

What is the procedure for obtaining a Zoning Determination?
The first step is determining if the property is zoned properly for the type of business you plan to open. To achieve this, please submit a letter to the Land Management Department at landmanagement@oxfordma.us and indicate in the email that you are seeking zoning approval for a business certificate with the following information:
  • Your Name, Address, and Phone Number
  • The name you want to use for the D/B/A, ie, your name d/b/a business name
  • Business address
  • Number of employees
  • Number of vehicles
  • Detailed description of the business, ie, home occupation or retail business, etc., including services being offered, office space, number of rooms being used for business, and whether or not materials will be stored on the premises.
  • Business hours
  • Parking information (including company vehicles or equipment being parked at the property)
  • If you are not the property owner, please include a signed letter or ask the property owner to email landmanagement@oxfordma.us granting permission for the business.

Once the letter is submitted, the request will be reviewed by the various departments. Once the determination has been issued, a letter will be emailed back to be taken to the Town Clerk. Please contact the Building Department at 508-987-6045 - option 4 or email us with any additional questions.
