Project Description: The Town has resurfaced the road pavement on Millbury Road with a Cold-In-Place (CIP) base construction followed by a hot mix asphalt (HMA) surface course. In one continuous operation, the top 2 to 5 inches of distressed asphalt were cold-milled to produce reclaimed asphalt pavement (RAP). The RAP was then mixed with strengthening additives and placed back onto the existing roadway. The CIP process produces a longer lasting roadway surface than a mill and overlay or a shim and overlay and is much faster than conventional reclamation. Once the CIP was been completed, a surface course of HMA was installed to extend the life of the roadway even further.
Project Goals: Provide a uniform cross section and profile on the roadway to the extent feasible, provide structural improvement, reduce wear & tear on Town’s fleet, and significantly improve rideability for all roadway users.
